The Duwamish waterway is a tributary to Puget Sound and serves the city of Seattle as its main trade and shipping port. The Duwamish has been settle by humans for over 10,000 years.
Harbor Island lies in the southwest part of the city of Seattle in the Duwamish Waterway. It is a manmade island where incoming ships offload cargo for the city and is populated by cranes, containers, railways and silos. The largest space is managed by the Shell petroleum company and its hundreds of oil silos that store incoming fuel before it is redistributed. Harbor Island was completed in 1909 and was the largest manmade island in the world until 2004.
It is a wonderful place to take pictures where humans intersect with nature and the inherent conflict as we discover the balance we need to survive.
